In 2003, Nornberg & Associates received First Place in the 18th Annual Wood & Wood Product/Doug Mockett & Company Design Competition for an original shelf bracket design. The contest specifically seeks innovative ideas in furniture parts, components, accessories and hardware. As stated by Doug Mockett, "The shelf support design you submitted is a refreshing design. It will make the shelf appear to float above your dramatic support."

When I decided to use a glass shelf as part of a snack bar area, I created these shelf brackets to add a clean and modern feel to the wood and granite used in the rest of the kitchen peninsula. The design derived from an idea I had had a few years earlier for a handrail bracket that a client chose not to use. The brackets were machined from stainless steel. When my cabinetmaker saw them, he suggested that I enter them in a design competition sponsored by the hardware company, Doug Mockett. They were chosen as the award-winning submission across all categories in the annual Doug Mockett Design Competition in 2003. The bracket is now available as part of the Doug Mockett catalogue of high-end hardware offered worldwide.
